This young girl is dressed in her Sunday best as she rests her arm on the chair beside her. A sense calm and innocence perhaps? But, note just a hint of self-congratulation on her face, and the “in-charge” clench of her hands. Her dolls are scattered, abandoned on the floor, and her cat, far from amused, is proudly displayed in the chair. Here we see Pennock’s subversive humour, which often brings a smile of discovery to the viewer’s face.
This exhibit of 100 remastered photographs explores the many facets and subtleties of the work of this iconic photographer who was unquestionably ahead of his time. The Wonderful World of Clifford Pennock displays weekends, 10 am – 3 pm, from June 29th to September 1st at the Red Brick School, Elgin, Ontario.
